The Art of Serigraphy

So yesterday I got an awesome B-Day present: a screen printer! While watching the DVD on how to use it I got to thinking about the art form (and the thousands of projects I want to do with it)...

Based on the Japanese art of Katazome and
more commonly referred to as screen printing, Serigraphy has come a long way since the days of ancient Japan. In the 1900s it was patented in England and its first commercial use came in 1914 by John Pilsworth in the United States.
Screen printing reached new heights in popularity during the First World War because of its ability to print multi-layer
ed images on items such as flags and patriotic banners several times.

Today screen prints are everywhere... on t-shirts, bags, accessories, you name it. Below are a few of my favs on Etsy right now.

Octopus Tee - Dark Cycle Clothing
Keep the Faith Print - Black and Red Eye
Cupcake Bib - Apericots
Buddha Tote - Vonderberry

With any luck, in the next few weeks you'll see a few of my screen print designs up for sale in the shop...
